Does Smoking Affect the Appearance, Texture and Quality of Skin?

How many, many times have we discussed this issue when you have called us by phone asking for immediate help, or a solution for your "suddenly" troubled and dull skin. I think no one will start reading this article hoping that the answer to the question in the title will be negative. The reason is obvious, because YES, cigarettes destroy, among all others, the skin ALSO! Which, as we know, is also the largest organ in our body and therefore plays a very important role in our general health, but also in our mood. But so much? Not even a cigarette with coffee? So for company... Or just on a walk, late at night, when I go out for a drink... with friends. Is it that bad? Not exactly... because the truth is that in the end it does more harm than you think.

Should we list just a few facts? Let's say the most basic ones. Because general statements like this cause premature aging of the skin, you will find them everywhere. Let's go a little deeper, because that's where the problem essentially begins! Smoking causes damage to the deeper skin layers long before the first signs of destruction of the outer skin tissue or otherwise our skin become visible. That's why most of the time creams and serums seem to not have the same effectiveness in smokers, because the root of the problem starts deeper. Unfortunately, the same is true for so-called passive smokers, it's just that the problems do not appear as immediately and with the same intensity.

Either way, smoking reduces blood flow to the skin due to nicotine in the blood vessels, reduces its proper oxygenation and destroys or significantly limits all the nutrients transported through the bloodstream. This results in reduced collagen and elastin production and the appearance of the first wrinkles and free radicals in the areas around the mouth and eyes. Then the décolleté and hands follow. Another very characteristic sign due to smoking is the yellowing of the fingers, face and teeth. The reason for this is again nicotine, which blocks vitamins and other nutrients from repairing the damage and dryness caused by cigarettes. And what if I block nicotine with a filter, or if I replace it with an electronic cigarette? Unfortunately, even then we will not have more positive results, because the chemicals contained in and passed into our body through smoking act as inhibitors in the production of collagen, leading to the total depletion of the body's reserves. They also deplete the ability to store the all-important vitamin C. They affect hormonal levels and are responsible for the, at times, intense outbreaks of acne and hair loss. I could continue writing for hours, but I think you must have understood by now about the, essentially almost irreparable, damage that smoking causes. And is there a solution? Yes, there is, but I'm not so sure that you will be happy when you read it.

But we said, in this blog we will finally be honest. Quit smoking... yesterday, not tomorrow. Yes, the sooner, the better. And if I can't? First of all, there are now many methods of quitting smoking. If in Europe they have reduced the consumption of tobacco products by 40%, then surely we can too. As for some cosmetics that could help? Certainly any form of Vitamin C either in the form of Serum, or as a cream, retinol and hyaluronic acid products. But in a smoker, unfortunately, the improvement that she will see through the use of such cosmetics is reduced even to percentages that reach 70% if she continues this harmful habit. And you mean that improving our eating habits is also very important. Plenty of water, fruits and vegetables can significantly improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Especially if plenty of Vitamin C is included in what we eat. But isn't it a shame to tear down what we've been trying so hard to build ourselves? So maybe it's time to quit smoking? Tip: Don't forget to watch the movie "The Insider" to understand what's going on with smoking in general. It's a true story, starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe, and it might just tickle your ego a little. It's said that it's helped more than 600,000 people in America alone quit smoking....
