Maskne - The medical term is called: "acne mechanica". In other words, acne that you develop because of the mask. It is created when sweat, skin sebum and bacteria are trapped while wearing the protective mask. It is different from other types of acne (such as pimples that appear around your period, which are hormonal) and occurs with prolonged use of a mask on the areas of the face covered by the mask. "In healthy skin, there are normal amounts of bacteria, but when the pores are clogged due to excessive sweat and moisture from the mask, these organisms multiply, leading to pimples and even cystic acne. Incorporating these steps can help you prevent more pimples from forming.
- Step 1: If you are wearing a cloth mask, you should wash it daily. Choose a mask made of 100% cotton.
- Step 2: Wash your face thoroughly. Cleansing your face is the alpha and omega! Ideally, you should apply the OCM (Oil Cleansing Method) to your routine and then wash your face with a mild facial cleanser, morning and night.
- Step 3: Apply a product with Glycolic acid and Salicylic acid that removes dead cells thanks to the decongestant properties of these two ingredients, as they free from excess sebum and reduce the reappearance of skin blemishes.
- Step 4: Then apply a sebum-regulating moisturizer , preferably with hyaluronic acid, which helps in collagen production, deeply moisturizes the skin and protects the skin by creating a barrier between the skin and the mask.
- Step 5: If you can, avoid makeup. Frequent use of makeup products on the areas where the face and the mask come into contact will strain the area.
- Step 6: Soothe your skin by adding prebiotic products to your routine. They strengthen the natural defenses of cells. They balance and strengthen the skin's microbiome, making it more resilient. They nourish and shield the protective skin barrier.
